previous this year,
Kodak announce that it would be pull out of the low-end camera
marketplace, and has by now pulled out of the digital SLR market, which
most probably means the corporation will be intent it's efforts on its
outstanding super-zoom cameras, its rather less imposing high-end
compacts, and its ultra-slim style cameras, such as this Easy Share
M873.
Purchase Camera By:
The M873 is an 8-megapixel ultra-compact,
with a 3x go fast lens and a 2.5-inch monitor. It's initiation into a
packed and violently spirited area of the camera marketplace, and will
be corresponding itself next to cameras such as the Pentax M40 (£125),
Canon IXUS 70 (£136), Olympus FE-250 (£161), Nikon CoolPix S510 (£189),
Sony Cyber-shot W90 (£199), Casio Exilim EX-S880 (£220) and the
Panasonic Lumix FX33 (£220). The M873 is at present obtainable from some
online retailers for under £113 counting release, or £129.99 buy direct
from Kodak via its website, so it's absolutely rival on price, but what
about excellence?
The first feeling is surely good. There's
no deny that the M873 is a enjoyable looking camera, and one of the
slimmest on the marketplace (although it's in fact 22mm thick, not the
17.9mm claim in the online spec sheet). It has an all-metal aluminum
corpse with a nice brushed finish and chrome tourist attractions. The
overall construct excellence is quite high-quality and the camera feel a
lot more luxurious than it actually is. There are a pair of worries
though, in exacting the flimsy plastic-hinged card/series hatch and the
off-centre artificial tripod shrub, both of which could give way to be
dressed in and rip.
The manage layout is a bit
tricky, a recurrent difficulty with ultra-compact cameras, though to be
pale it's no more tricky than a number of of its competitor, and at
smallest quantity the buttons have a nice yielding but optimistic click
to them. though the lack of some sort of thumb grip and the place of the
buttons on the rear panel do create the camera a bit ill at ease to
grasp. The shiny-on-slightly-less-shiny labeling of the D-pad is a small
piece hard to observe in dim light, but other than that there are
rejection main problems with the wheel. Apart form its place the zoom
manage is in fact quite good, with a group of fine control for precise
framing. The zoom act appears to be incessant rather than step, so it is
likely to move it to any place with a small piece of careful process.
